Answer Not 42

The name of this site is in reference to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, where the computer Deep Thought is built to calculate the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. By a process of elimination, it determines that the answer must be 42.

The idea of there being no ultimate purpose to the universe comes from the concept of materialism, or physicalism as it is now often referred. Where it is suggested that all that exists is the physical that is the subject matter of physics. Thus God is said not to exist, and the universe has no purpose..

This physicalist viewpoint, seems to have had significant backing in the academic community, and what this website aims to do, is put forward several articles showing that reality isn't as physicalists suggest. At this point, many physicalists might be tempted to read no further, being ever so sure of their position, though they could undertake the intellectual exercise of seeing if they can defend their belief in light of the articles that follow.

Though the site is still under construction, the first article is up. Hopefully even those without a background in philosophy will be able to follow it.

I will later be adding an email link to the site to allow those that think they have a counter for the articles to forward their counter. In the meantime, you might want to discuss it with family, friends or anyone else who might be interested, and see if they think they can counter it, and if you are able to see why their counter doesn't work.
